Artist
Statement
A native of
Pennsylvania, my artistic career began in 1993 working on the rivers of West
Virginia as a videographer for the whitewater industry. Upon receiving my BA from WVU, I relocated to
Fayetteville, WV to be closer to the Mountains and Rivers. As I continue my education with Summersville
TV as a community video journalist, I also love interacting with people with my
ceramic art.
Making tactile
and utilitarian pieces, I would like my pottery to influence people as it has
influenced me. Handmade, from the earth to
build human relations, may it be conversation, fellowship, or communion. I call it mindful consumption.
My work has
certainly evolved in many ways, and continues to evolve as I try to find my
artistic voice. Currently, my art features renderings created
with graphic design software and transposed on to clay vessels using a Mishima inlay
technique and Sgrafitto. I like the idea
of fusing contemporary processes with one of the oldest processes of our
time. The perpetuation of the potter's
trade is vital to maintaining and preserving humankind's culture.
I hope you
enjoy my soulfully inspired handwork. Each
piece is fired to Cone 6 and is durable enough for daily use including the
dishwasher, microwave, and oven. You can
